There is something deeply rewarding about preparing meals with seasoned cast iron cookware, whether you're a novice chef or an expert. As robust and durable as it is non-toxic and non-stick, this type of cookware brings a unique sense of character to your kitchen. From the succulent tikka masala for dinner to the delectable crispy paratha in the morning - cast iron will always do its job!

Are you scared off by the many myths surrounding cast iron skillets? Don't be! If your skillet is well seasoned and rust-free, it will enable you to make a huge selection of mouth-watering dishes for years. With proper care, there's no need to fear using a cast iron skillet in the kitchen

What is pre–Seasoned Cast Iron?

Pre-seasoned means a coating vegetable oil has been applied to prevent the cookware--usually cast iron--from rusting while it sits on store shelves or in the warehouse. Right away, you can start cooking with this cookware. However, when food begins to adhere to the surface of your pan or pot, it's time for another seasoning session.

If you're looking for cookware that will keep your meals warm much longer and can be used to create a range of dishes, cast iron is the way to go. Dutch ovens or skillets make excellent options as they allow you to start recipes on the stovetop and finish them off in the oven - something many other materials cannot accommodate!

Do I need to Season my pan again?

And even if it is already seasoned, you will likely need to re-season over time as necessary. For example, Lodge Logic provides a set of re-seasoning guidelines when purchasing their cast iron cookware - so be sure to take advantage.

Wash the cookware with sudsy hot water and a brush for best results; not to worry if you use soap because it is time to re-season your kitchen pans.

Rinse and dry completely.

For optimal results, evenly apply a thin layer of melted vegetable cooking oil to the cookware's interior and exterior.

Place cookware upside and then in inverse position on heat.

Heat the cookware for at 15-20 mins. After the oil has smoked out, turn the oven off and let the cookware cool.

Once the cookware is cool, store it in a dry area without covering.

Advantages of Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron

Cast iron cookware is a breeze to clean and maintain after its initial seasoning. To preserve your skillet or pan, simply rinse it with water then dry it completely when you finish cooking. Every once in a while, give them an extra layer of vegetable oil for additional seasoning!

When it comes to cookware, cast iron is a wise choice for its affordability. Not only are these items of superior quality than those made from other materials, but they require just one-time investment as well - you can get an impressive saucepan or skillet at a highly reasonable cost and enjoy them for years!

Cast iron cookware grants a highly even surface for cooking no matter the source of heat. Make your breads are totally crispy and curries delicious by using an incredibly hot cast iron skillet or a Dutch oven.

By properly seasoning cast iron bakeware, the surface acquires an all-natural non-stick layer. With minimal requirement for oil or butter on your cooking area, you can prepare meals that are reduced in fat and still have them taste great! Moreover, unlike other materials used in cookware, seasoned cast iron lasts a long time and is easy to clean up after each use.

Basics of Cast Iron

Seasoning cast iron cookware may appear daunting at first, however it is a surprisingly simple and quick process. Even though the initial seasoning can be effortlessly achieved in twenty minutes or less, maintaining it for years to come is definitely worth your time and effort!

Cooking acidic ingredients such as tomatoes or citrus juices in cast iron can be a tricky endeavour. The acid contained within these foods pulls out the iron from the skillet and saucepan, giving your dish an unexpected dark hue. Interestingly enough, some individuals delight in this as it adds extra nutrients to their food by fortifying it with additional iron! It is essential to never leave acidic foods in a cast iron cookware for too long, as this can damage the seasoning and cause rusting.

When you're cleaning your cast iron skillet, be mindful to use soap sparingly and in little quantities. Doing so can prevent the disintegration of its seasoning layer; instead, opt for salt scrubbing and then use hot water alone as an effective yet safe cleaning alternative.

Iron is naturally prone to rusting, yet with proper seasoning of a cast iron skillet, the oil seeps into its surface and makes it rust resistance. This ensures that your cookware will be resistant to corrosion and prevent food from sticking. Be sure to read all instructions for utilizing and maintaining a cast iron skillet!

How is Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron a Healthy Choice?

Less Oil

Cast iron cookware has a beautiful, glossy sheen that is the sign of a well-seasoned pan. This makes it practically non-stick when cooking, which means you don't have to use copious amounts of oil to brown potatoes or sear chicken! Not only does this make your meals healthier and better tasting; it saves time in the kitchen as well.

Chemical Free

Despite their convenience, non-stick coated pans are often not favoured by consumers due to the toxins they may contain which can lead to health issues. However, leading companies like Meyer guarantee a 100% safe product regardless of if it's a non-stick or pre-seasoned cast iron pan. Therefore, cast-iron pans make for an excellent alternative to the traditional non-stick variety for this very reason.
