How to make Daliya and Pine Nut Tikki ?
1) In a nonstick saucepan, heat water, add your daliya and soaked toor dal. Cook them till they are soft and then strain properly.
2) Take the strained dal and daliya in a bowl and add chopped ginger, green chilli, some bhuna jeera and crushed pine nuts to it. Add some chopped coriander and season everything with red chilli powder, meat masala, garam masala and salt.
3) Mix everything together with a spatula and form even sized tikkis with oiled hands.
4) Heat a non-stick tawa and brush it with some refined oil all over. Sear the tikkis in batches on the tawa for 3-4 minutes per side.
5) Once grilled, serve them hot on a platter as it is or with some dip.
Expert Tips
- Refrain from over cooking the dal as it tastes better when it is a little grainy in the overall mix.
- If you don't have pine nuts, you can use chopped almonds in place of that.
- You could also grill the tikkis in desi ghee and get a way better taste.
