What is Peanut Butter ?

Peanut butter is essentially a spread made with dry peanuts that have been roasted as they are. In many cases peanut butter contains added ingredients like sweetener and flavourings. The USA is one of the largest producers, as well as consumers of peanut butter in the world. So much so, they even celebrate a national peanut butter day on the 24th of January. Peanut butter as a food item, is highly nutrient rich and is a major source of protein for many. It is usually spread on toasts and used in sandwiches like the peanut butter and jam sandwich.

      Making peanut butter might sound intimidating, but using this simple recipe you might find out how quick and simple it is. It uses only 2 ingredients and has little to no cooking required. .

        How to make Peanut Butter ?

        1) Preheat your oven to 200 degree celsius. Take a cookie tray, spread out the raw peanuts over it. Put them in the preheated 200 degree oven for 15 minutes to roast.

        Roast Peanuts

        2) After half the time is done, open the oven door and give the peanuts a shake. Once the time is up, take the tray out and let them cool.
        Cool down the Peanuts

        3) Once the peanuts are cooled, place them on a kitchen towel, make it into a sack and rub the roasted peanuts together to remove their skin and place them in a bowl.
        Peanut Butter

        4) Add the skinless roasted peanuts in a blender and blend the mixture for 2-3 minutes till it becomes smooth and creamy. Season the peanut butter with salt, and store it covered in the fridge for upto a month.

        5) Use this peanut butter on toast or in pastries and frostings, as you wish

        1) Peeling the peanuts is an optional step as it gives you a smoother non coarse peanut butter.

        2) If you want a chunky peanut butter, you can blend it at that stage.

        3) Use sea salt instead of the regular table salt for better results.
