Byadagi chilli - Health Benefits, Uses and Important Facts

Byadagi is a type of popular chilli in the Indian state of Karnataka. It has been named after Karnataka’s town of Byadgi in the Haveri district. In some Indian supermarkets and grocery stores, it is occasionally written as Bedgi. Among all Indian chilli varieties, the business involving Byadagi chillies has the second-largest turnover. These chiles are used to make an oil called oleoresin, which is used to make nail paint and lipstick. In addition to being less hot and having a deep red colour, byadagi chillies are used in numerous South Indian cuisine recipes.

Dabbi and kaddi are the two varieties of byadagi chillies. Small and chubby byadagi dabbi is more well-known for its colour, flavour, and taste. Compared to the kaddi variety, it is less spicy despite having more seeds. This cultivar works best for making masala and extracting oleoresin. This type is preferred by several well-known food businesses for their goods. It is primarily used in nail polish and lipstick among cosmetic products. The kaddi variety is longer, twisted, and thin with fewer seeds.

Byadagi chilli is a crucial component in many hot dishes from South India, including Bisi bele bath, sambar, chutneys, and other foods. It is also a staple of Udupi cuisine. Due to the vivid red colour it gives the flesh, it is also utilised in meat preparations.
